I work at a movie theater.
And personally? To be in the tickets booth, and see young girls, teenagers, adult women, coming in to see Barbie,
the most highlighter pink outfits, some of them coming in with the dolls they’re dressed as, laughing to each other, cheering for each other,
to see the men they’re coming to see it with, dressed in pink, cheering them on, taking their pictures with smiles and cheers in the lobby at the photo op
touches something so deep in me
I can’t say any nuances of the movie that haven’t already been said, but like, fuck man, love is so deep and so kind and to be able to see glimpses of it from behind my little ticket desk makes me a little less nihilistic.
The Barbie Movie.
A small, non-comprehensive list of things that stood out to me (spoilers? Kind of?)
- The soundtrack
- All the jokes that played off of what it was actually like to play with barbies (the pool & ocean being flat, the cups having no drinks in them, the shower having no water, etc.
- TRANS BARBIE
- The choreography
- The "I Am Kenough" tie-dye sweater
- Barbies of many shapes and sizes! All very beautiful!
- THE ENDING, OH MA LORD. Both the way the story concluded really beautifully, but also the ending joke that no one was prepared for—
- Just... everything about Ryan Gosling's performance
- Kate McKinnon playing the deranged, "ugly" Barbie
- In the same vein, that movie would NOT have been complete without representing the kids who played with their dolls "too hard" (cutting their hair, bending them in weird ways, etc.)
- Acknowledging that Barbie did in fact mean a lot to some girls. This movie was geared towards everyone, whether you grew up loving Barbie or hating her.
- The mom and her daughter
- The fact that when Barbie was starting to become "defective" and/or when she was in the real world, you could start to see her ""flaws"". Like I noticed in some scenes her eyebrows were unplucked and no longer perfectly sculpted, or her skin no longer perfectly smooth with foundation.
- It was clear that SO much thought and research was put into this. I couldn't believe how many references there were to specific clothing items, certain playsets, etc.
- The fact that Barbie and Ken DIDN'T end up together, and that Barbie DIDN'T indulge Ken in his flirtations (is that a word?) even once
- THE FACT THAT I WAS SO CLOSE TO ACTUAL TEARS LIKE SEVEN TIMES???? LIKE WHAT????
- The weird dark humor coming out of nowhere
- The fact that Barbie never once looked at the human women (who were "imperfect" in comparison to her) with disgust
- ......the moment between her and the woman on the bench 😭😭😭
- The mom's rant about how hard it is being a woman (esp a mother) and how you can never win 🙌🙏
- The misogyny in the Real World was so well done. It wasn't overexaggated or over the top it was just NORMAL EVERYDAY LIFE
- THE JOKE ABOUT HAVING A MAN SIT YOU DOWN TO TALK ABOUT THE GODFATHER ASDJGKDLW
- The moment where I went "OH so THAT'S where the mugshot memes came from"
- Ruth Handler <3
- The fact that everyone came to the theater dressed either in pink or Barbie-like attire :)

I love you hiring bridgerton guy just to be hot and untouchable and having his first major scene staged so that one tiddy is always artfully exposed. I love you well choreographed fight scenes and a beautifully chaotic representation of six seconds of combat. I love you compelling plot point of attunement requiring a successful role with your spellcasting modifier. I love you solving puzzles by shoving round p(ainting)egs into square holes. I love you forcing Justice Smith to do a British accent for no reason. I love you level 20 NPCs who can’t help the party against the big bad for ambiguous reasons. I love you bigby’s hand slap fights. I love you Nat 20s on potato attacks. I love you owlbears, mimics and gelatinous cubes. I love you dragons, I love you dungeons. I love you dnd movies that love dnd.
Something about Joan is Awful and the digital age… stealing from people to create faster content… creating deepfakes that actually ruin lives… having no control over your image… people… creating a system of exploitation to avoid creating your own content and paying writers… capitalism thriving on negative self image… people doing whatever they want without your consent… telling you this is what you signed up for with your fame/gender/sexuality…

Finland was robbed, I voted for him and I will die on that hill, no matter how many Loreen fans would call me "misogynist" for stating the obvious. Did you have other favs besides Finland? Germany and Serbia deserved better too!! ToT
Germany, Spain, Albania, Norway and France definitely deserved more. Of course, when Sweden HAS TO win, the jury votes HAVE TO go to Sweden so the jury can’t give points to other countries :3 Norway is furious of this year’s competition and say this was rigged. Everyone seems to have a real bad taste in their mouth after Sweden won only because jury wanted it.

Every single other Eurovision official victory video is having the similar like-dislike balance. Absolutely unheard in Eurovision! Usually, while there might be disagreements on who should have won, the winner is celebrated nevertheless. I heard the audience was booing and chanting Cha-Cha-Cha when the winner was announced and that outside in many places, where people had gathered to celebrate, people literally just walked out.
As said online: United by music, divided by jury. The shitshow aftermath is strong. Every single Eurovision social media post celebrating Sweden is full of negative messages and how Käärijä should have won. Eurovision Youtube mod keeps removing negative comments quickly. Yesterday there were lots of critical voices in the comments, now there’s suspiciously too many positive voices for such a huge dislike ratio.
Loreen herself is completely innocent in this. Too bad this will affect her career and public image negatively.
There was no reason for Finland not to win. None. If the televoting was to believe, it was Finland’s victory. But apparently televoting doesn’t do a shit when jury decided that a country X must win, let’s give them so many votes that even if the 2nd place runner got full 12 points of ALL European countries by televote, they can still win with 20 points only.
And that’s never going to happen.
Talk about robbing televoters’ money since their voting doesn’t count :))))
Next year whoever Germany sends should just come on stage, lie down on the floor and stay like that quietly for 3 minutes. Then get up, bow and leave without a single word.
Worst case scenario, still the same place in the ranking but with minimal effort. Best case, people who hatewatch Eurovision ironically vote for that.
